Membership Bulletin – June 2026

Introduction

Welcome to this latest edition of the NFB Membership Bulletin. This month we welcome new leadership, celebrate excellence across the industry, highlight new resources to support members’ net zero ambitions, showcase continuing professional development opportunities, reinforce the importance of standards and heritage expertise, and report on our ongoing advocacy work around Section 106 transparency.

As always, the NFB remains committed to supporting members, raising standards and providing a strong voice for construction businesses across the UK.

Welcoming New Leadership

People remain at the heart of everything we do, and this month provided another opportunity to bring colleagues together for a day of learning, collaboration and shared ambition.  Supporting and developing our people remains a key priority, ensuring that the Federation continues to evolve and provide the highest standards of service for members.

We are  delighted to welcome Bill Rabbetts as the NFB’s new Chair. Bill brings considerable experience and insight to the role, and we look forward to working with him as the Federation continues to strengthen its support for members and champion the interests of the construction industry.

At the same time, we would like to thank outgoing Chair Mark Wakeford for his hard work and dedication during his time. Mark’s contribution has played an important role in shaping the organisation’s continued success.  We are pleased that Mark will continue his involvement with the NFB and will remain on the Board of Directors..

Showcasing Excellence

Recognition and celebrating excellence are essential to promoting the very best of the construction industry and our Construction Awards of Excellence remain among the sector’s most highly prized accolades, recognising outstanding individual and team achievements across the UK.  The awards submissions this year have been of the highest quality once again highlighting the professionalism, innovation and commitment that exist throughout the industry.  Our expert panel of judges have had the unenviable task of scoring the entries and the shortlist for this year’s awards has been announced.  We look forward to celebrating the achievements of those businesses and individuals who continue to raise standards and demonstrate excellence across construction.  Watch this space for further updates.

Market Insight and Navigating Net Zero

Providing members with access to quality information and practical support remains an important part of helping businesses plan for the future.

The NFB is now making use of Barbour ABI data, providing valuable market intelligence and project information to support members in identifying opportunities and understanding emerging trends. Members who would like to access these services can benefit from a 20% discount off ABI 12-month subscriptions and15% off market research reports. For more information speak to their Membership Manager for further information.

Alongside market intelligence, sustainability and the transition towards net zero continue to be major priorities for the NFB and the wider industry.

Through the NFB Academy, members now have access to dedicated training designed to help businesses understand their environmental responsibilities and work towards their net zero goals. The NFB also continues to provide practical guidance through webinars and resources available within Ask NFB.

As clients, policymakers and supply chains place increasing emphasis on sustainability, access to practical support and expert guidance will become ever more important.

Developing Members Through CPD

Training and professional development remain central to the support provided by the NFB.

Whether through live webinars or courses delivered by the NFB Academy, members have access to a wide range of opportunities designed to enhance knowledge and develop skills across their businesses.

Raising Standards and Protecting Heritage

Maintaining high standards has always been fundamental to the National Federation of Builders. All members adhere to the NFB Code of Conduct, providing clients and stakeholders with confidence that they are working with reputable and professional contractors who are committed to quality and integrity.

For projects involving historic and traditional buildings, the NFB Heritage Approved Contractor Mark provides an additional level of reassurance. The mark recognises businesses with the experience, knowledge and craftsmanship required to restore and conserve heritage assets, giving clients confidence that they are working with contractors who understand the specialist demands of these important projects.

By promoting quality and professionalism, the NFB continues to help raise standards across the built environment.

Continuing to Champion Members

Advocacy remains central to the NFB’s work, ensuring the concerns of construction businesses are heard by policymakers and decision-makers.

Our latest report focuses on Section 106 agreements, where developer contributions intended to support local communities are often subject to limited transparency. The NFB is calling for local authorities to provide clearer information on how these funds are collected, allocated and spent.

Greater transparency will help ensure Section 106 monies deliver their intended benefits and provide increased confidence for developers, contractors and communities.

The NFB will continue to champion policies that support a stronger, fairer and more productive construction industry.

Advocacy remains one of the NFB’s defining roles, ensuring that the concerns of construction businesses are heard by policymakers and decision-makers.
