Hampshire, September 2026

Liam Walker, founder and director of NFB Heritage Approved Contractor Member Buildtonic Ltd, has been awarded Chartered Membership of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). He can now use the MCIOB designation.

The CIOB is the world’s largest professional body for construction management and leadership. Chartered Membership is the Institute’s professional qualification. It recognises competence, ethics and professional conduct in the industry, and to earn it, candidates need a mix of academic qualifications and senior, hands-on experience, and they have to show both through a detailed professional review.

Liam graduated from the Bartlett, UCL, with a degree in Project Management for Construction in 2021. He then spent three years as an Assistant Project Manager at WSP before growing Buildtonic into a heritage and residential main contractor working across Hampshire, Surrey and London. Buildtonic manages high-end refurbishments, extensions and remedial work on listed and historic buildings, and acts as Principal Contractor.

Commenting on the award, Liam said:

“I started at the very bottom of this industry, so this one means a lot. Chartership is about being held to a standard, and that’s exactly what our clients should expect from whoever is looking after their home or their listed building.”

Congratulating Liam on his milestone, James M. Butcher, NFB Deputy Chief Executive said:

“One of the NFB’s core values is professionalism, so it is great to see Liam embody that by achieving Chartered Membership of the CIOB. Buildtonic has gone from strength to strength and looks to have a very bright future ahead. Liam deserves his chartership and will no doubt go on to even greater things in the future.”

The next step is for Buildtonic to start the process of becoming a CIOB Chartered Building Company. To find out more about Buildtonic visit: buildtonic.co.uk
