NFB Team Comes Together for Development and Leadership Day

The National Federation of Builders recently brought colleagues together from across the UK for a development day at leading construction college, Reaseheath College in Nantwich, focused on professional development, leadership, communication and the future direction of the trade body.

The event formed part of the NFB’s ongoing commitment to investing in its people, ensuring members continue to receive the highest standards of support, advice and representation. The afternoon opened with remarks from Chief Executive Richard Beresford, who reflected on the NFB’s purpose, values and long-term ambitions for both the organisation and the construction industry.

One of the key sessions of the day focused on communication and engagement. Associate Director of Membership Sean Houlston, supported by Jamie McGuire of JM Media, delivered practical training on social media and content creation. The session explored how every member of the NFB team plays a role in sharing the stories, achievements and expertise of members, helping to showcase the value being delivered across the membership every day.

The team also welcomed Chris Charles, Chief Executive of Building Heroes, who delivered a presentation on the charity’s work supporting military veterans into meaningful careers within the construction industry. The session highlighted the social value construction can create and the opportunities available to employers looking to recruit skilled and motivated individuals from the armed forces community.

Deputy Chief Executive James Butcher provided a commercial and strategic update on the future direction of the NFB. Staff heard about the federation’s priorities around competence and building safety, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, responsible business practices and procurement. The presentation also highlighted a growing range of member services, including the NFB Academy, Member Directory, Tender Portal and future initiatives designed to help members build stronger and more successful businesses.

The training day also marked the completion of the final module of the NFB Leadership Diploma for NFB staff. Over recent months, colleagues have undertaken a structured leadership development programme designed to strengthen management capability, develop future leaders and enhance the organisation’s ability to support members through a period of significant change within the construction sector.

Richard Beresford, Chief Executive of the NFB, said:

“Our people are the reason we are able to deliver such a high level of service to our members. Investing in their development ensures we continue to evolve as an organisation while staying true to our values. The construction industry is changing rapidly and it is essential that the NFB remains at the forefront of that change, providing the leadership, expertise and support that our members expect.”
